Who is taking part in the Scrappage Scheme?
At the time of writing Nissan, Ford, BMW, Vauxhall, Volkswagen, Toyota, Peugeot, Citroen, and Audi have all confirmed their participation. Honda, Mercedes-Benz and Jaguar Land Rover are yet to decide on whether to take part.
Who will benefit from the Scrappage Scheme?
Consumers would get a £2,000 discount from the price of a new car (£1000 from the government with matched funding from industry).
Car manufacturers would continue to see the UK as a positive location for production and continue the tradition of manufacture here.
Automotive suppliers such as Visteon and Wagon may be prevented from administration preventing additional unemployment.
Many car dealerships would be saved from the brink of insolvency.
